It is going to be a busy weekend of football action here in Louisiana and for Southwest Louisiana, there are a ton of games scheduled from high school and college here in Lake Charles, and also some high school football teams hitting the road to play.

First, week one of the high school football playoffs got underway last night as East Beauregard, Westlake, Oakdale, DeRidder, and Oberlin were in action. Here are the results:

DeRidder 28 - Lakeshore 21
Oakdale 53 - East Beauregard 21
Centerville 40 - Oberlin 26
Bogalusa 42 - Westlake 7

Oberlin, East Beauregard, and Westlake are eliminated. DeRidder and Oakdale are moving to the 2nd Round.

There are a ton of local Southwest Louisiana teams in action in week one of the Louisiana High School Playoffs. The teams in action tonight include the Barbe Buccaneers, Elton Indians, Grand Lake Hornets, Iowa Yellow Jackets, Lake Charles College Prep, Kinder Yellow Jackets, Sam Houston Broncos, South Beauregard Knights, Welsh Greyhounds, Leesville Wampus Cats, Eunice Bobcats, Hamilton Christian Warriors, and the Lake Arthur Tigers.

The McNeese Cowboys will host Houston Baptist Saturday night in Lake Charles at Cowboys stadium. Kick-off for the game will be at 7:00 p.m. Matt Bonnette with McNeese said,

All Calcasieu Parish school faculty and staff from Pre-K to the 12th grade are invited to attend, free of charge, to Saturday night’s McNeese's final home football game of the season when it hosts Houston Christian, for Teacher Appreciation Night.

The LSU Tigers will host the Florida Gators in Tigers Stadium Saturday night. The game is sold out but you can watch it on television as the game will be aired on the SEC Network starting at 6:30 p.m.

The New Orleans Saints will travel up to Minnesota to take on the Vikings on Sunday. That game is set for noon and will be televised on the FOX network.
