Louisiana’s Top 5 Favorite Country-Themed Movies Of All Time

We asked the question on Facebook last week "What is your favorite country-themed movie of all time?"  You flooded us with your answers to the tune of over 100 responses.

There are so many to choose from but we were impressed by your answers. Your answers included some of the most iconic country-themed movies of all time.

Two of the movies that made the list also produced some of the most iconic soundtracks in country music of all time while some of the other movies also produced some great country hits.

So now the question is, who made your list? Here is Louisiana's list of your favorite country-themed movies of all time.

 #5 -- Tombstone 

The movie came out in 1993 and starred Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, and Bill Paxton.  The movie chronicled and featured the legendary Wyatt Earp. Here is the movie trailer from the 1993 movie.

#4 -- Smokey And The Bandit

This movie is a classic and was released in 1977 and starred Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, and Sally Field.  It was about a fast-driving cowboy and his buddy who drove an 18-wheeler as they bootleg Coors beer in a certain amount of time while having a sheriff from their home state chase them the entire time. #3 -- 8 Seconds

This movie is about the life and death of legendary cowboy and bull rider Lane Frost played by the late Luke Perry. In the movie, you will get a taste of how rough the life of rodeo and bull riding is while Lane Frost and his good buddy Tuff Hedeman played by Stephen Baldwin, try and make it on the rodeo circuit while Frost falls in love with a rodeo cowgirl. The movie produced some great country songs like If I Had Only Known by Reba, and Once In A While by Billy Dean. Here's the movie trailer.

#2-- Urban Cowboy

John Travolta and Debra Winger star as Bud and Sissy in this movie based on the largest nightclub in the world, which at one time was housed right down the road in Pasadena, Texas named Gilley's after country music start Mickey Gilley. The movie came out in 1980 and is one of the best country music movie soundtracks of all time. The soundtrack produced hits like The Devil Went Down To Georgia by Charlie Daniels, Lookin' For Love by Johnny Lee, and Stand By Me by Mickey Gilley.  Here is the 1980 trailer.

#1-- Pure Country

George Strait stars in this movie as Dusty, a country singer who lost his way from the old-school way he used to perform. Dusty leaves behind his tour, the lights, and a fast pace of living to go back to his roots where it all began. While doing that, Dusty falls in love with a cowgirl and has to reveal to her in the end that he is a country music star, not just some low-life cowboy. The soundtrack to this movie performed by George Strait produced many hits like I Cross My Heart, Baby Your Baby, King of Broken Hearts, and Heartland but there is not one bad song on the entire movie soundtrack.
