The college football season is coming soon and for the McNeese Cowboys football team, it will begin right here in Lake Charles as their first game of the new season will take place at Cowboys Stadium on September 2nd.

If you think about it, that is only a little over three weeks away and football will be back in Lake Charles and the pokes will hit the field that Saturday against Tarleton State on September 2nd.

The return of McNeese football also means the return of the Cowboy Block Parties presented by Lake Charles Toyota. Those concerts happen every Friday night before every home football game for the Pokes. The concerts are free and open to the public and to all ages. We will be announcing the entertainment lineup soon.

The second week of the 2023 season finds the McNeese Cowboys football team traveling to Gainsville, Florida to take on the Florida Gators in the swamp. This is a big game for the Pokes as they face off against a big SEC team and because it will be televised nationally.

The game between the Cowboys and Florida will take place on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, and will kick off at 6:30 pm. We have learned that the game will be televised on ESPNU that Saturday night.

How cool is that? McNeese will get some major exposure for the program for not only taking on a big SEC team but also that it will be on a national sports channel. We are excited for the upcoming season for the players, second-year head coach Gary Goff, and also for poke nation!
