Photo Of Lightning Hitting Top Of Burton Coliseum In Lake Charles

Over the weekend, we were at the Burton Coliseum for the 2024 Rabbit Festival broadcasting live and emceeing the entire week ends events. The festival started on Friday evening around 7:00 pm but Mother Nature had something else in mind.

The doors opened to the festival at 6:00 pm and about thirty minutes later, the skies opened and a monsoon began. We are talking about building shaking thunder, a ton of lighting, and then the driving rains started. When the rain started, so did the wind. The wind picked up to high levels making the rain come down sideways.

The roads around the Burton started filling with water causing water to engulf the parking lots at the complex. You could see how high the water got as vehicles drove through making wakes in the water.

The lightning was shooting down every few seconds which put on a beautiful light show while also being dangerous for all those who were in the area. Little did we know, we would be the target of one of those lightning strikes.

Around 7:00 pm Friday, one of those lightning strikes hit the top of the Burton Coliseum causing the power to cut off momentarily before Burton's generators turned on and the power was back.

Looks pretty cool, huh? Well, it wasn't that cool since we were standing right under the building when it happened. Everyone was safe and the festival went on as scheduled and everyone had a great time.
