A precautionary boil water advisory was issued this afternoon for resident's on Garland Street near, near Nelson Road. The city's water division cut the water supply "due to damage caused by a contractor installing another line", said a media release for the City of Lake Charles. Officials will make an announcement once water in the area has been restored. Residents have been contacted.

At the time of the media release contractors were working to repair the line, which was slated to take a few hours to repair. The boil advisory will reportedly last through Saturday evening. Water samples will be collected to ensure the water supply is safe.

Affected residents are encouraged to "disinfect their water before consuming it, including making ice, brushing teeth, using it for food preparation or rinsing foods by boiling the water for one full minute in a clean container. The recommended one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The advisory does not affect showering or bathing."
