What to Know Before the 2026 Gueydan Duck Festival

Gueydan, LA [KNGT-FM] - If you've never experienced the Gueydan Duck Festival, this is the year to make the trip. And if you've been going for years, the 2026 celebration gives you an especially good reason to return.

The 50th annual Gueydan Duck Festival is set for August 27-30, 2026, bringing four days of Louisiana music, food, family entertainment and outdoor competition to Gueydan. The festival traces its beginnings to 1977 and has grown into one of Acadiana's signature traditions.

According to the Duck Festival's Website,

On May 12, 1977, the trademark bearing the title "Gueydan, LA.- Duck Capital of America" was recorded and validated with the Secretary of State in Baton Rouge upon the actions of the Les Dames de Gueydan, a local women's club. A few months following this, the Gueydan Jaycees promoted the trade name by organizing a group of interested citizens to form what is now called the Gueydan Duck Festival Association.
The first festival was held in November of 1977 and has grown considerably each year. Held originally on blocked-off streets in Gueydan, the Duck festival moved to its own grounds in 1980 when the Atlantic-Richfield Company donated 7 acres to the Gueydan Duck Festival and the Vermilion Parish Police Jury.

There's much more than music, too. Visitors can check out the carnival, Grand Parade, skeet shooting, cooking competitions, pageants, and other activities celebrating the area's hunting and Cajun heritage.
