Lane Closures on I-210 Bridge: Major Repairs Start Today (March 10)
If you were hoping for a smooth ride across the I-210 Bridge anytime soon, think again! Starting March 10, lane closures are coming, and traffic jams might just become your new daily hobby. Blame Hurricane Laura for wrecking the lights, or just blame bad luck, but either way, get ready for some stop-and-go action!
Drivers on the I-210 Bridge will have to deal with lane closures for several months as crews replace lights damaged by Hurricane Laura.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) says the $8-million project will install new lighting and upgrade electrical systems on the bridge. Work begins Monday, March 10, and will continue through the fall.
To get ready for construction, crews will repaint lane markings and shift traffic. This means single-lane closures in both directions.
Here’s what drivers can expect:
- I-210 East will have lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. between March 10 and March 20.
- I-210 West will have lane closures from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. between March 10 and March 14. Starting March 14, the left lane will stay closed on I-210 West until further notice.
- Bridge Closure: From March 14 to March 20, the bridge will be closed to westbound traffic from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. while crews install a concrete barrier.
- The Cove Lane exit will stay open, but an 11-foot width limit will be in place for vehicles during the project.
If the weather cooperates, the work should be finished by the fall. Kiewit Louisiana Co. is handling the construction.
Drivers should plan for delays and use caution in the area.
