The 3rd Annual Veterans Day BBQ will be held at Cooler’s Icehouse in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

It is a free event for any and all veterans in the SWLA area and beyond. Started by Bubba Viator, a veteran of the US Navy, this event is growing more than even he could have imagined. “It’s a way for Modern War Vets to come together and escape from the world, share stories, and interact with those that have been in similar situations.” Gable Darbonne, a military paratrooper, says “It’s a great first step to help those that came back feeling lost and alone to talk to their fellow brothers and sisters and perhaps realize that they truly aren’t alone and aren’t the only ones going through a rough time.”

“When we first held this event, we scraped up some donations together from friends and family. Now we have some amazing sponsors this year to be able to provide more food for free to our brothers and sisters” says Viator. “It will always be 100% free no matter what it takes.” The event will begin at 11am and run till 5pm. There are plenty of TVs inside and out to enjoy the LSU game. They will begin the event with prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the National Anthem. Following the LSU game, there will be entertainment by Cody Forest. There will also be “3rd Annual Veterans Day BBQ” T Shirts and Koozies available (for free) while they last. “We will even let the Marines cut the sleeves if they want to,” says Darbonne.

They stopped by the Gator 99.5 studio and sat down with our very own Buddy Russ to talk about the event and even had a photo op! If you are a veteran or know one, we encourage you to share this post and help spread the word about this amazing event going on in the Southwest Louisiana Area!
