UPDATE - 9:00pm: In a late night reversal of today's earlier announcement, the Calcasieu Parish School Board has announced all schools and facilities will be closed for the remainder of the week.

UPDATE - 1:30pm: F. K. White Middle School in Lake Charles will be closed the remainder of this week due to additional flood damage discovered after further assessment earlier today. CPSB states faculty will return on Monday, May 24, with students returning to campus the following day, on Tuesday, May 25.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board announced this morning that all CPSB schools will reopen tomorrow on Thursday, May 20. Mayor Nic Hunter said Monday's rainfall totals will probably exceed Hurricane Laura's numbers, if not match those of Hurricane Delta.

According to the National Weather Service, Lake Charles received between eight to 15 inches of rainfall in one day. It was that enormous rainfall coupled with hurricane debris that overwhelmed the city's drainage system.

So far, there has been one reported death in Lake Charles attributed to the flooding, with more than 70 residents rescued from flooded vehicles, streets, and homes. CPSB was forced to close all schools for the safety of students, school board workers, faculty, and staff.
