Aretha Franklin Dead at 76, More Country Than We Thought?
The queen of gospel, soul, folk, and, yes, country music, has passed away at 76. She passed away this morning after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. She leaves behind a vast catalog of songs, performances, and even some country music.
You wouldn't thing the Queen of Soul would have her her diva hands in Country music, but you'd be wrong.
In 1951, Hank Williams had a hit on his hands with Cold Cold Heart. Years later, in 1964, Franklin used gospel, waltzing, and her massive voice to change the feeling up and recorded the song that has more power than a church revival in it!
She even dabbled with a Willie Nelson track in the 60s called Night Life.
The ability to cross genres of music this way, is truly what made her the Queen. Long live the Queen of Soul!
