
Precautionary Lockdown Issued at Barbe High School
Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - We received word on Thursday Afternoon of a "precautionary lockdown" at a school in Southwest Louisiana.
It is being reported that there was a large police presence outside of Barbe High School in Lake Charles on Thursday after an anonymous threat was made.
1:20 UPDATE: KPLC is reporting that there was NO THREAT found at Barbe High School.
Here is the message sent out by the Calcasieu Parish School Board:
"This message is for the parents and guardians of students at Barbe High School. The school is currently under a precautionary lockdown due to an anonymous tip being called into the school. All students, faculty, and staff are safe, and we ask that parents do not report to campus at this time. This is being fully investigated by law enforcement and school personnel. We want to reiterate that all students, faculty, and staff are safe. We will provide an update to families as soon as possible. Again, the school is currently under a precautionary lockdown due to an anonymous tip being called into the school. All students, faculty, and staff are safe, and we ask that parents do not report to campus at this time. This is being fully investigated by law enforcement and school personnel. We want to reiterate that all students, faculty, and staff are safe. We will provide an update to families as soon as possible. Thank you.""
Here is the latest statement released by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:
CPSO deputies are currently on scene at Barbe High School following an anonymous call made to the school. The caller advised that there was a student armed with a weapon on campus. The school has been placed on a precautionary lockdown while deputies conduct a thorough safety check of the campus. The primary clearing of the school is currently nearing completion.
At this time, W. McNeese Street in front of the school is closed.
CPSO is currently investigating the call further, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
