Gator Listeners Pick the Best Burger in Southwest Louisiana
There are some questions you can ask folks in Southwest Louisiana that will start an argument QUICK. Who makes the best gumbo? Potato salad in the gumbo or on the side? And apparently, who makes the best hamburger? We found that last one out this week.
We Asked Southwest Louisiana Who Makes The Best Burger
For Mike & Scotty's Biscuits and Banter Question of the Day on Gator 99.5 Facebook Page, we asked our listeners a pretty simple question. Who has the BEST burger around Southwest Louisiana? I figured we'd get a few of the usual places. Yeah... y'all had other plans.
The answers started coming in from Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake, Hackberry, Moss Bluff, Jennings and even farther away. So instead of trying to pick the winner ourselves, we counted the votes. No fancy judges. No food critics.Just regular folks around Southwest Louisiana telling us where they spend their money when they're craving a good burger. And one place definitely stood out.
#10 - Mom N Pops
Mom N Pops on Alice Street in Sulphur got some love from our listeners. Sometimes those little neighborhood places are where you find the best food. Nothing fancy needed. Just give me a burger, some fries and plenty of napkins.
#9 - Boyd's Crawfish House & Grill
Boyd's Crawfish House & Grill also made the list. You might see "crawfish" in the name, but apparently we shouldn't be sleeping on the burgers.
#8 - All Things Louisiana
Moss Bluff entered the conversation with All Things Louisiana. When you're asking the entire area about burgers, you KNOW Moss Bluff isn't going to sit this one out.

#7 - The Store Inc.
Here's where things got interesting. One listener specifically called out the Brisket Burger at The Store Inc. in Sulphur. Now we're talking. Burger plus brisket? I might need a nap afterward, but I'm willing to take that chance.
#6 - Big Lou's Street Kitchen
Big Lou's Street Kitchen got a strong recommendation too. Actually, the comment basically said nothing else compares. That's a pretty big statement when you're talking burgers around here.

#5 - Parish Seafood Company
Parish Seafood Company picked up multiple votes from our listeners. Yep. Another seafood place getting mentioned in a burger conversation. Maybe that's the lesson here. Don't automatically order seafood just because "seafood" is on the sign.
#4 - Hungry Highway
Hungry Highway also picked up multiple votes. One recommendation specifically mentioned their Bayou Burger, so if you're following the food truck around Southwest Louisiana, that might be the one to try. Now we get into the places that really started stacking up votes.
#3 - It's A Three-Way Fight
We couldn't really separate these three because each received three votes.
Big E's Kitchen in Sulphur.
Round Top in Westlake.
And Hackberry Community Center, also called The Park by several listeners.
All three got plenty of love. And honestly, I love that. These aren't some giant national burger chains. These are places right here around Southwest Louisiana that people know and love.
#2 - Parish Seafood Company
Parish Seafood Company finished behind that three-way group, but the vote totals show just how many different places people around here swear by.
There were also votes for Big Daddy's, Loggerheads, The Rocket in Jennings, Bad Apple, Prime Butcher & Brasserie, Green's Cafe in Jennings and several others. But there was ONE restaurant that kept showing up over and over again.
#1 - Cottons Downtown
This one wasn't particularly close. Cottons Downtown received six votes, making it the most-mentioned burger spot in our Gator 99.5 listener comments. And people weren't just saying "Cottons." They were calling out specific burgers. One person mentioned getting the burger with a fried egg. Another specifically mentioned the Jam Burger. Several others basically said Cottons was their pick, hands down.
So according to the Gator 99.5 listeners who answered Mike & Scotty's Biscuits and Banter Question of the Day, Cottons Downtown takes the top spot in our Southwest Louisiana burger battle.
Now does that officially mean Cottons makes the best hamburger in Southwest Louisiana? Well...I ain't getting in the middle of THAT fight.
We're just counting the votes. But six different mentions definitely tells me there are a whole bunch of people who think they're doing something right. And looking at all these answers made me realize something else. We might need to actually go TRY some of these burgers. You know. For research purposes. Very serious radio research.
