Wayne Toups was born in Crowley, Louisiana, on this day in 1958, which makes Wayne 67 years old today. Wayne Toups is absolutely the biggest name in Louisiana music to ever come out of the bayou state. Wayne is a Louisiana Music Hall of Famer, a Grammy Award Winner, and has racked up dozens of hits.

One of those hits, Free Me, which he released in 1999, actually hit the Billboard country charts, landing at #66 on the charts. Of course, Wayne has had tons of other hits as well.

We would also like to wish a Happy Birthday to another Louisiana music legend. Jo-EL Sonnier. Jo-El Sonnier was born on this day in 1946, so Jo-El Sonnier would have turned 79 years old today. He passed away in February of 2024.

He was a proud member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and a Grammy Award winner. Throughout his life, Sonnier dedicated himself to recording Cajun music, including his iconic rendition of Harry Choates’ classic, Jolie Blon.

In the mid-1980s, Sonnier made his mark in Nashville while signed to RCA Records, releasing memorable tracks like Tear-Stained Letter and No More One More Time.
