Register Now for the Inaugural Black Pot Cookoff in SWLA

Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - Food lovers and backyard chefs are invited to fire up their cast iron cookware for a brand-new culinary competition that combines great food with an even greater cause. Daxton's Heart Warriors will host its Inaugural Black Pot Cookoff on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Enos Derbonne Sports Facility in South Lake Charles.

The event aims to raise money for children and families affected by severe congenital heart defects, with 100% of the proceeds supporting the organization's mission.

Cooking teams will compete in three unique divisions: Woods & Wilderness (wild game), Surf & Shore (seafood), and Pasture & Pen (beef, pork, or chicken). Every dish must be prepared entirely in or on cast iron cookware, highlighting the tradition of black pot cooking.

Teams can begin setting up at 6:00 a.m., with cooking officially getting underway at 7:00 a.m. Judging starts at 11:00 a.m., and once the winners have been selected, the public will have an opportunity to sample the entries beginning at noon.

Registration is $100 per team for each category entered, and competitors may enter more than one division. Organizers say all food must be prepared on-site, as precooked dishes are prohibited.

Contestants are also responsible for bringing their own tents, tables, cooking equipment, fuel, ingredients, and supplies, as electrical hookups will not be available.

Awards will include a Judges' Choice winner in each category, along with an overall People's Choice Award selected by attendees.

Whether you're competing for bragging rights or simply coming to enjoy a day of incredible food, the inaugural Black Pot Cookoff promises to be one of Lake Charles' tastiest charitable events of the year.
