McNeese Promotes Bridget Martin to Director of Athletics
Lake Charles, Louisiana - A familiar face is taking over a big role at McNeese State University. Bridget Martin has been named the new Director of Athletics. The announcement was made by Interim President Dr. Kedrick Nicholas.
“Bridget Martin has made notable contributions to McNeese Athletics for many years. While much of her work has been behind the scenes, she has played a key role in our success. She understands the day-to-day operations and will help keep our programs moving forward.” - McNeese Interim President Kedrick Nicholas

Martin has been part of McNeese Athletics for more than 40 years. She started working at the school in 1990. She spent 11 years as the head coach of the Cowgirls before moving into a leadership role. Over the years, she has worked as the Senior Woman Administrator and NCAA Compliance Director.
In 2023, she was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director. She has helped oversee several sports, including basketball, softball, and volleyball.
“I am very honored and thankful for the chance to be the next Athletic Director at McNeese,” Martin said. “McNeese is home, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together.”
“We want to keep growing the McNeese name through success in sports,” Martin said. “We will stay true to our pride and tradition here in Southwest Louisiana.”

Martin makes history as the first woman to ever hold this position at McNeese. She is also one of only a few women to serve as an athletic director in Louisiana.
“Bridget Martin knows McNeese inside and out and is absolutely deserving of this role,” said former McNeese AD Heath Schroyer. “We worked closely together for six years, and without her, McNeese wouldn’t be where it is today. She’s an amazing leader, and the athletic department is in great hands.”
Martin will be officially introduced during a press conference on Monday at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the Jack Doland Field House.
