A few weeks ago, I was approached by a gentleman named Scott from Politico magazine based out of our nation's capital, Washington DC.

He said that he was writing a feature about the state of AM radio and the unique formats from all over the country. He asked if we would be interested in him coming down to do a story about our 24/7 AM station called Cajun Radio.

Cajun Radio was established in March of 2005 and plays only Cajun, Swamp Pop and Zydeco music over the 1290 AM frequency and the Cajun Radio mobile app.

Well, Scott booked a flight and came down to Cajun Country! In his two day visit, I gave him a tour of the Cajun Radio studio and our vast music collection. All the music played on Cajun Radio comes from my personal library that was collected by me and my late father, Dave Soileau.

Over the past 35 years, I have seen our library grow into thousands of Cajun, Swamp Pop and Zydeco CDs, Cassette Tapes, 45 & 33 vinyl records, and even a few 78 vinyl records.

We talked about the history of the music and the heritage and culture that surrounds it. We also talked about how I am in the Cajun French Music Hall Of Fame alongside my dad.

We also brought him to eat our Cajun cuisine at Mr. Bill's Seafood Express, where he ate crawfish for the first time. He also experienced boudin balls, jambalaya, crawfish pies, and crab cakes. Later, we went out to Sam Houston Jones State Park and then, for the finale, a Cajun music concert event.

It just so happened that Groovin' On The Grove was going on in Lake Charles and the icon, Wayne Toups, was playing that night, so I set up and interview for Scott to talk with him.

Scott had the opportunity to eat our food, enjoy our Cajun music, and the atmosphere of a South Louisiana event. He then returned to DC, where he put together his article and spoke of his experiences here in South Louisiana.

The link below will take you to the story. Make sure to scroll down to the bottom of the story to read the feature on Cajun Radio. Enjoy!
