Calcasieu Parish Announces Additional School Openings
Pandemics, hurricanes, online school or in-person school. Parents and caregivers have been dealing with all these questions and events in 2020. Our school systems are right there with you on what to do.
We all want to get back normal. Our kids want to be kids again and get back into a routine and be able to see their friends again. The Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) has announced they plan to reopen six more schools after the two hurricanes, Laura and Delta.
The CPSB announced the blue-gold schedule last week will remain in place for all 7-12 grade students. Now, if your children are in prekindergarten through sixth grade, they will report to their schools five days a week.
The schools that will reopen include DeQuincy middle school on October 23. Then, on Tuesday, October 27, Moss Bluff Middle School and Sulphur High Ninth Grade Campus will start.
Then on Wednesday, October 28, three more campuses will open for students to return. They include Maplewood Elementary School and Maplewood Middle School in Sulphur and S.J. Welsh Middle School located on West McNeese street in Lake Charles.
If the school your child goes to is still closed, work is being done alongside contracting companies to expedite repairs.
If you are not comfortable letting your kids return back to in-person learning, CPSB says online learning remains available for all students. For more information, visit www.cpsb.org.
