On Saturday, McNeese was able to ride Javohn Garcia's 22-point effort en route to a 65-50 win over Northwestern State. Along the way, he also hit a major milestone—scoring his 1,000th career point.

"He's our best and most consistent player right now," Wade said. "He was really good for us last year as well. He can get downhill, draws fouls, and does a lot of positive things for us at the point."

With the win, the Cowboys kept their 3-game lead in the Southland Conference with seven games left. They’re now 18-6 overall and 12-1 in league play. McNeese also became the first team to lock in a spot in the SLC tournament, which they’ll be hosting in March.

Defensively, McNeese forced 21 turnovers and held Northwestern State to its lowest-scoring total of the season. Wade credited his team’s press for making a difference.

"I thought our press really helped us, particularly in the first half," Wade said. "Our full-court pressure helped set our half-court defense, and we forced three or four shot clock violations, which was really good for us."

The Cowboys have been dominant at home, winning 17 straight games against Southland opponents. Over the last two seasons, they’re an incredible 28-1 at the Legacy Center.
