Cowboys Host Cardinals in Rivalry Game on Saturday
McNeese and Lamar will renew its' "Battle of the Border" rivalry for the first time this basketball season in a double-header inside the Legacy Center on Saturday.
The party will get started well before the basketball gets underway as Lake Charles Toyota will be hosting a Tailgate Party outside the Legacy Center. Doc Wilder will be there to provide live entertainment, and the staff will serve gumbo, boudin, sausage, and chicken wings. For the kids, there will be inflatables from Lake Area Adventures. The best part? The tailgate is completely free, and everyone is welcome to join, including fans from Beaumont!
It is now back-to-back Southland Conference double-headers inside of the Legacy Center as McNeese hosts Lamar on Saturday. The women's game will get started on Saturday at 1:00 with the men slated to tip off at 4.
The Cowgirls are amidst a 2-game losing streak after falling to Stephen F Austin on Thursday Night 91-49.
It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but through 6 conference games, McNeese has come out unscathed to start Southland Conference Play, but the road is going to get tougher moving forward, and that will start on Saturday with a matchup with Lamar.
McNeese will go into Saturday at 12-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play. The Bayou Bandits are riding a seven-game winning streak, which is their longest of the season. This impressive run has helped McNeese set a school record with 17 straight wins against conference opponents, a streak that dates back to last season.
On the other side, Lamar enters the matchup with a 9-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in conference play. The Cardinals got off to a hot start in Southland action, winning their first four league games, but they have stumbled recently, losing their last two contests at home against Stephen F. Austin and New Orleans.
On Wednesday, Coach Will Wade spoke with the media about the Cardinals...
Lamar will present some challenges for Will Wade's bunch as Coach Alvin Brooks has been able to assemble a pretty large team with multiple guys above 6 foot 10. "Lamar is a good team. They are probably the biggest team in the league. They also have a huge frontline."
"They've been playing well. They had a tough weekend, which everyone has from time to time in this league, but they've been playing really well and it will be a tough game for us."
During the press conference, Wade also addressed some of the injuries and provided an update on Alyn Breed. Click Here to Read More.
The women's game will start at 1:00 with the Men's game slated to tip off at 4:00 and you can watch all of the action on ESPN+ with Tom Hoefer (PXP) and Ron Hayes (Color) on the call. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
