Danger in the Bayou: Louisiana Cities Among America’s Most Dangerous
With Crime already on the rise in 2025 a recent study found that three cities in Louisiana were among the most hazardous in the US. The likelihood is that they may not be what you anticipated.
You don't really think about crime when you think of Louisiana in general. It's true that crimes occur frequently, but that's not the common perception of the Bayou State. But, Louisiana fall in the Top 10 most dangerous states in the union. There are always some areas you want to stay away from because of how hazardous some of the communities are, and Louisiana is no different than any other state.
The statistics on Neighborhood Scout's list of America's 100 Most Dangerous Cities are alarming. This ranking determines the amount of violent crimes per 1,000 inhabitants in cities with a population of 25,000 or more using the most recent FBI crime data and Census Bureau statistics. According to the report, the main causes of the rankings are violent crimes, which are characterized as aggravated assault, rape, armed robbery, and murder.
The following cities rank among the top ten most dangerous in the nation:
#1. Bessemer, Alabama (chance of being a victim of a violent crime - 1 in 30)
#2. Monroe, Louisiana (1 in 38)
#3. Saginaw, Michigan (1 in 39)
#4. Memphis, Tennessee (1 in 39)
#5. Detroit, Michigan (1 in 43)
#6. Birmingham, Alabama (1 in 49)
#7. Pine Bluff, Arkansas (1 in 48)
#8. Little Rock, Arkansas (1 in 49)
#9. Alexandria, Louisianna (1 in 53)
#10. Cleveland, Ohio (1 in 58)
As you can see two Louisiana Cities made the Top 10 List, but lets not forget the Top 50 with these two Cities making Honorable Mention:
#32. New Orleans, Louisiana (1 in 72)
#48. Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1 in 83)
Anyway, these discoveries shouldn't stop you from going to some of these locations. These cities have a lot to offer local residents. However, if an area seems a little "off," I would be wary of going inside. All of these cities still have some very cool locations to visit, eat, drink, and shop. You can read the article here to learn more about this study and the reasons for each city's inclusion on this list.
