Rip Van Winkle Gardens is a place where you can drift off to dreamland. This semi-tropical garden located in New Iberia Louisiana. The history of this magical place started with Joseph Jefferson, who built a hunting lodge on Jefferson Island in 1870. He performed the part of Rip Van Winkle on stage over 4500 times, which is where Rip Van Winkle Gardens got its name.
Guests can walk through approximately 15 acres of the gardens and over 350-year-old oak trees. You can also stay on the property overnight. They have the Cook's Cottage, which sleeps four and is also wheelchair accessible. The Servants Quarters sleeps two. Each place is outfitted with comfortable amenities such as: fridge, a/c and heating, TV, tub and shower, and comfy king size beds. Guests will also receive a complimentary breakfast, with a tour of the Jefferson home and a garden. Their cottages are smoke-free but they do offer rocking chairs on shaded porches.
If you have a special event coming up, you can take advantage of this beautiful property. This is a perfect venue with both indoor and outdoor event space for your wedding, bridal or baby shower, and corporate meetings. There is also a small meeting space in the Orangerie Building or a large meeting space in the newly renovated Bayless Center which seats up to 250.
