(KNGT-FM) - Dolly Parton was more than a country music singer; she was an ICON. On Tuesday, Dolly passed away at the age of 80, and we wanted to take a look at some of our favorite Dolly Parton movies from over the years.

Over Dolly's long life, she also became a successful actress, bringing her humor, charm, and big personality to the big screen. From comedy to drama, Dolly had a way of making every character feel like her own.

Some of the Best Dolly Parton Movies

9 to 5 (1980) - Let's start with one of the best Dolly Parton movies ever made, 9 to 5. It was Dolly's first major movie role, and she immediately showed everyone that she could do much more than sing. Dolly plays Doralee Rhodes, a secretary who works alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The three women are tired of their unfair and rude boss and decide to take matters into their own hands. And, of course, there is the song "9 to 5." Dolly wrote the famous song for the movie, and it became one of the biggest hits of her career.

Joyful Noise (2012) - Joyful Noise was a fun musical comedy starring Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, and Jeremy Jordan. The stars were definitely out in this one! The movie follows a small-town church choir as they try to win a national competition. Dolly plays G.G. Sparrow, a strong-willed woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind. The movie is full of music, laughs, and plenty of Dolly's personality. Parton also helped write songs for the movie, making the music a big part of the story.

Steel Magnolias (1989) - If you are from Louisiana, there's a good chance you've seen Steel Magnolias. The movie is set in Louisiana and follows a group of women who become close friends while dealing with the ups and downs of life. Dolly plays Truvy Jones, the owner of a local beauty shop. Her shop becomes a place where the women gather, talk, laugh, and share some of their biggest problems. It's funny, it's emotional, and it is almost guaranteed to make you cry. Dolly's performance is one of the many reasons this movie has remained a classic.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) - This one is absolutely hilarious; no matter how many times you watch it, it never gets old. Dolly teamed up with Burt Reynolds for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, a musical comedy based on the Broadway show. Dolly plays Miss Mona, the owner of the Chicken Ranch in a small Texas town. When people outside the town try to shut the business down, Miss Mona has to fight to keep it open. The movie gave Dolly plenty of chances to show off her singing, comedy, and acting skills. It also features one of Dolly's most famous songs, "I Will Always Love You."

Coat of Many Colors (2015) - This is a little bit different, but my personal favorite has to be Coat of Many Colors. This isn't a traditional Dolly Parton movie. It is a movie based on Dolly's childhood and the true story behind one of her most famous songs, "Coat of Many Colors." The movie takes us back to Dolly's childhood in rural Tennessee. It shows her growing up in a large family that didn't have much money, but had plenty of love.

Young Dolly receives a coat made by her mother from pieces of fabric. To Dolly, the coat is something special. But at school, other children make fun of her because they don't understand how much the coat means to her. The story was never about the coat; it's about family, faith, being proud of where you come from, and finding happiness even when you don't have much.
