This week Southwest Louisiana could see some heavy rains over the next few days according to forecasters. Experts are watching an area of disturbed weather in the Southern Gulf of Mexico that could produce four to six inches of rain in the next few days.

With that being said, The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has announced that they will be opening all sandbag locations in the parish for residents to go and fill up bags if needed.

If you or someone you know cannot go out with a shovel and fill sandbags yourself, the good news is that the Parish has a couple of locations where they have bagging self-serve machines. According to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury (CPPJ), they are located at,

  • ·Former Old Tyme Variety Store location – 810 Ruth St., Sulphur
  • ·Public Works East – 5500-B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles (go to back gates located on James Sudduth Parkway).

Now there are several do-it-yourself sites around Calcasieu Parish. The CPPJ issued a list of locations and they are,

  • Ward 1 Barn – 461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff

  • Ward 2 Barn – 7085 LA 14 East, Hayes

  • Ward 3 Old Barn – 2302 Smith Road, Lake Charles

  • Ward 6 Barn – 1275 Plum St., DeQuincy
