Louisiana’s Dustin Poirier Opens Up After Arrest

Georgia - Former UFC star and Louisiana native Dustin Poirier was arrested over the weekend in Georgia, and he has spoken out after the body camera footage was released.

The Lafayette, Louisiana native retired from MMA last year after a successful 16-year career. Poirier became one of the most respected fighters to ever step inside the UFC Octagon. During his career, Poirier picked up major wins over some of the biggest names in the sport, including Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, and Justin Gaethje.

Since retiring, Poirier has stayed involved with MMA as an analyst during UFC broadcasts. Fans have continued showing support as he focuses on his health and moving forward.

Dustin Poirier Arrested Sunday at Georgia Airport

The Lafayette native was arrested earlier this week on a public drunkenness charge after an incident at an airport. He was later released on bail. The bodycam footage was later released, and the video shows Poirier upset after he was reportedly removed from a flight. In the footage, Poirier can be seen arguing with an officer and becoming frustrated during the interaction.

At one point, Poirier tells the officer, “I’ll fight you right now,” while using strong language. The officer tries to calm him down and reaches for his taser during the conversation. (Yeah, what normal person is trying to fight Dustin Poirier?)

Poirier Speaks Out After Airport Arrest Incident

After the footage was released, Poirier shared a message with fans saying he knows he needs help and is working on himself. “I’m at the point where I need some help,” Poirier wrote. “Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me, and alcohol isn’t the answer.”

Poirier also said he wants to make changes for his family. “It has ruined my father’s life, and I will not allow it to ruin mine,” he wrote. “My family deserves me at 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”
