Elvis Week Celebrates the Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s Death
Yesterday marked the forty-third anniversary of Elvis Presely’s death. He was arguably one of the greatest entertainers of all time and became a world icon known simply as the ‘\King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Aaron Presley was born in 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi to a very poor family.
After his family moved to Memphis in 1954, he saved a few dollars to record a song for his mother at the famed Sun Records. Following the recording of That’s All Right, he shot to stardom and soon became known as Elvis the Pelvis.
It is estimated he has sold one billion records during his early years, later years, and beyond death. He had 21 number one hits and 38 top ten hits during his lifetime. Elvis also gained notoriety as an actor, staring in 35 movies.
In May of 1975, Elvis played two concerts held inside the Lake Charles Civic Center.
Sadly, Elvis Presley died unexpectedly on August 16, 1977 at his Graceland home in Memphis.
Each year on the anniversary of his death, Elvis Presley Enterprises hosts Elvis Week. It is a week-long celebration of his life and achievements. Visitors can tour his home, see his car collection, watch his movies in an outside drive-in theater, and pay their respects at his final resting place, located on Graceland grounds.
I have been to Graceland four times and plan on visiting again soon. Forty-three years after his death, his estate is estimated to be worth between $200 and $400 million dollars.
