Fashion Designer Kate Spade Dead at 55 From Suicide
The handbag, shoe, and fashion designer that swept the fashion world in the '90s was found dead in her New York apartment yesterday. Her housekeeper found her and a note in her bedroom. Spade hanged herself during the night.
Spade's company was bought out by Coach last year for $2.4 billion dollars. No details on the note or the reasoning for the tragic loss to the fashion world. Spade started her career working for fashion magazine Mademoiselle in the '80s. Shortly after, she started a company with actor David Spade's brother, Andy. In 1993, they started Kate Spade handbags. It went on to be a multi-billion dollar company. Although she is gone, her designs and work will live on with Andy and the Coach company.
