With the holiday season underway, scammers will definitely be out in abundance even more than they typically are. That comes with more people out shopping for the holidays. The federal government is advising citizens to not carry their Social Security cards with them every day.

Of course, losing your Social Security Card could lead to very dangerous situations. If someone crooked were to get ahold of your social security number, they would be able to open up credit cards, take out loans in your name, and much more. That could potentially damage any sort of decent credit you might have or would have in the future.

Per Social Security Matters, The best way to “Guard Your Card” is to keep it in a safe place and share it only when required, which is rare. In fact, in most cases, just knowing the Social Security number should be enough. In 49 states and the District of Columbia, a Social Security card isn’t required to request a Real ID. Only Pennsylvania requires it.
