Happy Timb-leton Day! The Stapleton/Timberlake Song is here!
Grab your phone, grab your keyboard, grab your headphones. It's here: the song we have been waiting for. A few days ago, I wrote about a song on Justin Timberlake's new album titled "Man of the Woods". The song came out at 11am this morning titled "Say Something" and features the beautiful bearded Chris Stapleton.
Stapleton and Timerlake became close after performing together at the 2015 CMA awards. We have all been waiting for a song from the duo, and I really didn't know what to expect when, and if, that song would ever happen.
I had my alarm set for 11am this morning, and pulled it up on Spotify. At first listen, I was a bit taken aback at the style and the sound. It's not a typical Timberlake song and, for that matter, not really a typical Stapleton song. I stood in shock, but hit play again. It began to grow on me more and more. I absolutely love it, and can't stop listening to it. No, it doesn't have a crazy beat to dance to, nor does it have a crazy guitar solo or giant vocal runs by Stapleton. When you realize the chorus is "sometimes the greatest way to say something, is to say nothing at all", the song's simplicity begins to shine.
The music video, also released today from justintimberlakeVEVO, features a very unique spin on what we know as a "music video". It was shot live in a dingy, but beautiful building.
Timberlake sings, and you're hearing his live vocals. Stapleton is seen on a balcony playing far away from the camera, and you hear his angelic voice echoing through the room. Hearing just that part is satisfying enough on its own. At the end, the duo walks into an atrium with balconies and scaffolding, and are met with a crowd singing the chorus with them.
It is a beautiful, single take, live-recorded video that I just can't stop watching!
