Harper Valley P.T.A. Singer, Jeannie C. Riley, Turns 71

All you classic country fans will know Jeannie C. Riley, who is celebrating her 71st birthday today.

Jeannie C. Riley got into the country music scene in 1967, and right out of the gate she got a number one hit, which is rare for a singer just breaking through in the national music scene.

Just one year after cutting her first album, Harper Valley P.T.A. was released and shot all the way to number one in 1968, but the success was short lived. Riley had singles released from 1968 through 1991, but none ever made it to number one.

She had some more semi-success with five other songs that cracked the top ten on the charts, but nothing like the success of Harper Valley P.T.A..
