How Is the Jell-O Shot Challenge Doing After LSU’s Performance Last Year?
It's pretty crazy that LSU winning the National Championship was already almost one year ago. I'm sure most LSU fans will no doubt remember the numbers that the Tiger faithful put up during Rocco's College World Series Shot Challenge. With the College World Series Finals happening this weekend, how does the competition stack up so far this year?
What is Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge?
For the uninitiated, Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge takes place at Rocco's Pizza & Cantina, a popular spot located just a stone's throw away from the TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The challenge coincides with the College World Series, adding an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie among the fans.
How Does It Work?
Fans purchase Jell-O shots in their team's colors, with each shot counting as a point for their team. The goal is simple: consume as many Jell-O shots as possible to help your team climb the leaderboard. It's a fun and spirited way to show support, with proceeds often going to charitable causes, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
Last year, the LSU Tiger faithful SHATTERED the record of Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge as Tiger fans took 68,888 shots during the two-week event. The previous record was held by Ole Miss who took 18,777 shots during their World Series run in 2022.
In 2023, With LSU Fans breaking the shot record AND SOME, PLENTY of money was donated was set to be donated to local food banks. During the two-week event at the College World Series, fans from the eight schools participating bought over 90,000 Jell-O Shots. To no one's surprise, LSU fans bought over 60,000 of the shots.
How does the competition shape up heading into Finals weekend at the College World Series? This year it will once again be an All-SEC College World Series Championship Final as Tennessee takes on Texas A&M beginning on Saturday.
As of Thursday Evening, Tennessee leads the entire field with 13,346 shots with Texas A&M not too far behind at 12,474. Heading into Championship Weekend, there have been a total of 50,425 shots taken at Rocco's for the College World Series Shot Challenge.
If you're keeping track, all nine 2024 CWS teams' shots COMBINED are still 18,463 shots less than the LSU total of 68,888 from last year's competition. Needless to say, I would not encourage getting into a drinking war with folks from Louisiana...
