Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - We have all seen the pictures on social media of the truckers and other large vehicles hitting the I-10 crossbar that is up, trying to protect the I-10 bridge as crews work to build the new bridge.

It has grown into a life of its own and even has its own Facebook page. If you're not from Southwest Louisiana, then you probably don't know what we are talking about. Let us explain.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is currently doing construction in Westlake as the start of Southwest Louisiana getting a new bridge. Because of the construction, several changes have been made to local exit and on-ramp configurations.

The newly constructed road and on-ramp pass beneath the I-10 bridge, but the roadway sits extremely close to the base of the bridge, making the clearance beneath the bridge limited. To prevent serious accidents and structural damage, DOTD installed a 12-foot clearance bar ahead of the underpass.

Big 18-wheeler trucks, large campers, and box trucks have been smacking into this thing ever since the project started. So much so that the I-10 clearance bar has been reconstructed several times, most recently being torn down and replaced with a brand-new one.

Now, a piece of the old I-10 clearance bar has found a new home. We got a special delivery today, a piece of that bar. And if you know Scotty, we instantly turned it into a coffee table for the studio, affectionately called The Neon Mosquito. Take a look.
