Iconic Mural Being Painted Over In Downtown Lake Charles
Social media and Lake Charles residents are blowing up over a mural being painted over in downtown Lake Charles. The mural is located on the side of the building that houses the Candice Alexander Art Studio.
The mural covered the entire side of the iconic building downtown and it was called "The Tree Of Life". In the picture above you can see where Candice Alexander, the artist who painted the mural has the I-210 bridge in the picture.
The painting also has a tree with leaves and birds on it. The artist took to her Facebook Page and said this,
Over the years this has served as a landmark AND my largest work of art.… and I’m sure going to miss it!
If you have a leaf feel free to come get it before our gracious deadline of July 30. -- Candice Alexander
Then to the dismay of Alexander and residents watching it live, the artist went live on Facebook as painters started painting over the mural with white paint.
We reached out to Candice and asked why they were doing that to the painting and she said, "No Idea". She verified that it was her art she had done with help with other local artists in the Lake Charles area but had no clue why it was being covered over.
Here is what it used to look like,
And now this is what it looks like being painted over.
