Today is National DJ day. DJ of course stands for Disk Jockey. This is a day to pause and celebrate the great American radio DJ so thank you!

Being a radio Dj is really a fun job. In my case, I have been doing it for almost 32 years now all in my hometown here in Lake Charles on the same three frequencies, 99.5, 92.9, and 1470 AM.

According to a survey of radio DJs, most say they just wing it when they are on the air. I like it better that way.  It comes off natural and is not rehearsed.

Have I ever said a curse word on the air in my career? The answer is yes, once.  I remember I was talking out of Garth Brooks's song Callin' Baton Rouge and said "That's Garth Brooks and his fiddle player in that song is badass".  I was like oops. LOL.

I found this funny, according to the dating app Tinder, radio personality is one of the most "right-swiped" jobs you can have. It also said that 39% of DJs polled have dated a listener.

Why do we do this job? Well for me I love talking to people, meeting folks, and helping out our community.  Plus it is a really fun gig. I get paid to flap my gums and talk for a living.

We also get to meet really cool people from the local folks doing great things in our community to the biggest music stars and interview them.

When DJs were asked in the survey what they do this job, the most popular answers were It's fun, To entertain people, and it's emotionally fulfilling.  I agree!

So Happy DJ day to my staff Chad Austin, Your Buddy Russ, Patrick Frey, Jess, and Ryan Keith!
