The City of Lake Charles is looking for full-time:

CITY ENGINEER

Under general direction, is responsible for work of considerable difficulty in the
designing, planning and supervision of City maintenance and construction, such as
storm drains and structures, roads, sanitary sewer and water lines; advises City officials
on technical engineering problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering theory and practice. Good knowledge of applicable laws and regulations dealing with construction within the City. Ability to plan for and evaluate results of contracted construction of roads and other public works.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Civil Engineering; and
ten (10) years progressively responsible civil engineering experience including five years in a supervisory capacity. Graduate degree may be substituted for three (3) years of experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer.

PUBLIC WORKS/WASTEWATER - PLANT MECHANIC III

Individual performs skilled and specialized mechanical work under general supervision. General duties include performing mechanical tasks in plants including cleaning, lubricating, calibrating, and other repairs, performing regular inspections and preventative maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, meters, chemical feeders, filters, and sewer lift stations.

LARGE EQUIPMENT OPERATORS

Must have CDL license and past driving or operating experience.  Positions open driving transit buses (requires passenger endorsements), solid waste rear-end loader, side loaders, cherry pickers, dump trucks, etc.

TRADES WORKERS

Individual is responsible for duties of a semi-skilled level under general supervision. General duties include: electrical work such as, wiring, replacing fuses and bulbs, and conduit work; use of power and hand tools, and operation and maintenance of machinery, including jack hammers, power saws and tapping machines. Also assisting in installation and repair of water and wastewater lines, sealing pipes, and installing fire hydrants; dig out, grade and fill ditches and potholes. Must have knowledge of tools and equipment necessary to perform the job, as well as, the ability to carry out and understand oral and written instructions. Must have valid Louisiana Driver’s License.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKERS

Individual is responsible for manual labor of an unskilled and semi-skilled nature under general supervision. General duties include: Loading, unloading and carrying sand, gravel, pipe, lumber, furniture, etc.; operating small equipment and hand tools, maintaining grass, shrubs and trees around the city, as well as cleaning and picking up trash around public buildings. Must be able to understand and follow simple oral instructions and have the ability to operate and maintain general cleaning equipment. Must have a valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
