Lake Charles, Louisiana: McNeese Basketball Play Makes ESPN Top 10
LAKE CHARLES, LA: The McNeese Cowboys had a huge win for the new look Will Wade lead program yesterday against Southern Miss. The Pokes even made ESPN with an electric play from Shahada Wells and Christian Shumate.
Willy the Kid rode into the Legacy Center for the first time this season then swaggered out with his Bayou Bandits with a commanding 67-48 victory over Southern Miss on Wednesday night in front of 3,494 fans.
A total of 642 days since he last coached on the sidelines, Will Wade recorded his first win as the McNeese head coach in his first outing and improving his season debuts to a perfect 10-0 mark as he begins his 10th season.
Early in the first half, the Cowboys were pressing the Golden Eagles hard in the backcourt when Shahada Wells darted across the court and intercepted a pass by the top of the key. A defender around the goal crashed on Wells leaving Christian Shumate wide open by the goal for an alley-op. The play made ESPN for their top 10 plays of the night.
The win was the first for McNeese over Southern Miss since the 2011 season.
McNeese will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts long-time rival UL Lafayette at 3:00 pm.
