We appreciate you if you're turning up the radio so loud so you won't miss a word we say, but if you're only doing it to stay awake behind the wheel, you may be suffering from a dangerous medical condition.

100 individuals with sleep apnea and 100 individuals without it were surveyed by researchers. And those who did were much more likely to use three or more techniques to help against nodding off while driving.

The three most popular tactics were turning up the radio to eleven, rolling down the windows, and drinking tons of coffee.

Other tactics include eating, chewing gum, moving about in your seat, stopping to take naps, and dousing yourself in cold water.

Also, remember that face-slapping move Jeff Daniels used in "Dumb & Dumber" works wonders too.

You may have sleep apnea and not be getting a good night's sleep if you do things like that on a daily basis to prevent falling asleep at the wheel.

You may want to reach out to your doctor to schedule a sleep study.  I had one two years ago and in many cases you don't have to go to a sleep lab.  My doctor had a company mail me the equipment to conduct my on study at home and then it free shipping back to the company. The whole process was very simple.
