It's about to be a double-whammy holiday week in Louisiana. You're probably painfully aware that Mardi Gras is in full swing around the state. That means parades and barricades in some of the larger communities and for smaller places such as Church Point, Eunice, and Mamou the celebration of Mardi Gras will take a more traditional turn with the Courir de Mardi Gras involving horses, costumes, chickens, and the consumption of copious amounts of barley-malt beverages.

Okay, that's Tuesday. Now, we all know Ash Wednesday comes the day after Mardi Gras but this year there is a holiday that coincides with Ash Wednesday. Don't forget that Wednesday will also be St. Valentine's Day. And that is the holiday that is seemingly lost on a lot of Louisiana people (men) at least at this point.

Men, as a rule, tend to shy away from Valentine's Day. Now if you're married or in a committed relationship the holiday is easier, at least in my opinion. You know your "dearly beloved" and you know their preferences. So, you don't have to worry so much about saying too much or not saying enough with your Valentine's gesture.

It's those young relationships where Valentine's can become a very slippery slope. Sure you want to offer a nice gift or gesture but you don't want to "overstep" your relationship status. And, while men don't usually understand the unspoken language of flowers, ladies certainly seem to.

And since so many of you will "say it with flowers" you probably want to make sure you're aware of what you're saying. It could be more detrimental than using the wrong emoji in a text message. If you aren't keenly aware of what each color rose stands for you could wind up sending the wrong message to your Valentine. So we've broken it down for you.
