In a press conference held at 2:30 pm today, Governor Edwards announced today that he has reinstated the mask mandate for Louisiana. This mandate is for people vaccinated and un-vaccinated from ages 5 years old and up.

The governor has already signed the mandate and noted that the mandate will be following all CDC guidelines. The mandate is for both outdoors and indoors. Friday, Edwards strongly suggested that citizens of Louisiana should wear their masks to prevent infection.

We are the worst in the country in terms of this COVID surge... Not enough people have been vaccinated in Louisiana.

The mandate goes into effect Wednesday, August 4, 2021. According to the mandate the governor signed, it will remain in place until at least September 1. The governor noted that the state is only showing 37% of completed vaccinations and 43% of partial vaccinations. Although the vaccinations are improving, the cases of COVID-19 are increasing. He also noted that the Delta variant is spreading across the state as well.

For more information on the mandate, Governor Edwards will have notes from his press conference here on the Governor's website.
