Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - We have made it to Mardi Gras week, and starting this Friday, February 13th, tons of events are going on in the Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana area for the holiday. There are several parades throughout five days in the Lake Charles area beginning on Friday and running through Mardi Gras day on February 17th, 2026.

The city of Lake Charles has announced that it will observe the Mardi Gras holiday and will close its offices on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. City Hall and all other services of the Department of Public Works will also be closed on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in observance of Mardi Gras and will resume regular working hours on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.

They also advised us that there will be NO trash pickup in Lake Charles on Mardi Gras day, so if your trash usually gets picked up on Tuesdays, it will not be picked up. Katie Harrington with the city of Lake Charles gave us the update on the new pickup times for the Mardi Gras holiday. She said,

Changes in trash and garbage pickup are as follows:
Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesday will be rescheduled for pickup on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.
Monday, Thursday, and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedules.
All Recycling stations, including the Team Green Recycling Truck and the Incinerator will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026. They will resume regular operating hours on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.

We also want to remind you that your trash containers and other items to be picked up should be placed out before 7 a.m. on collection day or on the evening before. Also, you need to bring your trash cans back onto your property by 7:00 pm on the day of collection.
