Governor John Bel Edwards announced yesterday that 290 Louisiana cities will be receiving more than $315 million in federal coronavirus relief aid.

The money is designed to help with the ongoing COVID-19 emergencies in their cities. The funds are being sent to these 290 locations because the American Rescue Plan didn't give them direct allocations because of their size.

Larger cities like Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Houma, Jefferson Parish, Kenner, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, New Orleans, Shreveport, Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, and Thibodaux aren't receiving funds from this program.

SWLA Cities Receiving The Funds:

  • DeQuincy - $1.14 million
  • Iowa - $1.17 million
  • Jennings - $3.62 million
  • Merryville - $409, 796
  • Sulphur - $7.42 million
  • Vinton - $1.19 million

The funding is allocated on the city's population and will be given in two installments, the first being in June 2021 and the second in June 2022.
