The Lake Charles Police Department has announced that they will be holding a recruiting day and open public tryouts on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at 8:00 am. It will take place at Sowela behind the Arts and Humanities building here in Lake Charles. 

There is no preregistration needed; all you need to do is show up that day in some comfy workout-style clothes to try out. Applicants will take a physical fitness test and need to complete all tasks. Here's what the PT test will consist of:

  • 300-meter sprint in 80 sec or less
  • 24 Military-style sit-ups in 1 min
  • 150lb rescue dummy drag
