Make A Difference: Lake Charles PD Recruiting Day Announced

Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - Do you have a call to serve? Have you ever wanted to be a police officer but didn't know how to start the process? Well, here is your chance, and we have all the info you will need to get started on a path to one of the most rewarding careers.

How do I know? I served 11 years as a police officer at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office in the patrol division, and I was proud to serve my hometown and community in which I grew up. Now here is your chance to do the same.

The Lake Charles Police Department has announced that they will be holding a recruiting day and open public tryouts on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at 8:00 am. It will take place at Sowela behind the Arts and Humanities building here in Lake Charles. 

There is no preregistration needed; all you need to do is show up that day in some comfy workout-style clothes to try out. Applicants will take a physical fitness test and need to complete all tasks. Here's what the PT test will consist of:

• 300-meter sprint in 80 sec or less
• 24 Military-style sit-ups in 1 min
• 150lb rescue dummy drag
