If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably watched those Zydeco dance videos online and thought, “Man… that looks fun,” then immediately realized your feet don’t move like that. I ain’t gonna lie, I got two left feet myself. So when I seen this pop up on Facebook, I thought this was honestly one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen in a while around Southwest Louisiana.

How to learn to Zydeco Dance in Lake Charles, Louisiana

The Zydeco Champions, Chris and ShaRhonda, are hosting a Zydeco Dance Class on Saturday, May 30th from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at 3231 Kirkman Street in Lake Charles. And this ain’t just somebody showing random dance moves in a room somewhere. This is all about real Louisiana culture, real Zydeco steps, and just having a good time.

Let’s be honest… Zydeco music is part of life down here. A lotta people, including me, love the music but never really learned how to dance to it the right way.

Now’s your chance.

According to the event page, Chris and ShaRhonda are gonna be teaching authentic Zydeco dancing in a way that’s fun and easy to follow. The class is $20 if you pre-register and $25 at the door. But they’re saying spots are limited, so waiting till the last minute might not be the best idea.

And honestly, this sounds way more fun than sitting at the house scrolling Facebook watching other people dance while we pretend we could do it too. Who knows… maybe after one class we’ll all finally stop looking awkward when the Zydeco band starts playing.
