LHSAA Releases 2024 Louisiana Football Playoff Brackets

After a weekend full of confusion, the 2024 LHSAA Football Playoff Brackets have been released at the originally slated Day/Time.

It was a strange few days for football fans across the State of Louisiana because, on Friday, the Louisiana High School Athletics Association (LHSAA) announced they were delaying the release of the brackets. This came after University High in Baton Rouge sued the LHSAA because they lost seven wins due to a ruling about player eligibility.

The Athletic Association had a few different options... Delay the start of the playoffs by waiting for the November 18th court date, or to go ahead and give back U-High all of its wins and begin the playoffs. They chose the 2nd Option.

As indicated in this morning's Power Rating release from the LHSAA, U-High has been given back all of its wins. So what happens with the November 18th decision? It appears that when the court date comes on November 18th, if the judge rules against U-High, the LHSAA will make them forfeit their 2nd round game and remove them from the playoffs, allowing their opponent to advance to the 3rd round. If they win the case, they keep their wins and remain in the playoffs.

Late Saturday Night, a memo was released by the LHSAA to its member schools regarding the playoff brackets. We have attained the statement from the LHSAA to its member schools and here's how it reads...

The football playoff power ratings will be posted on the LHSAA website under "Football" on Sunday, November 10 at 8:00am. The dispute period begins at 8:00am and concludes at 12:00pm (noon). If you have a dispute, please email both Eric Held (eheld@hsaa.org) and Kathie Smith (ksmith@hsaa.org). Include your name and school in the email with the reason for your dispute. Once the dispute period has ended and all playoff brackets have been updated, the brackets will be released.
