🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — We often see those big moving trucks as we go down the Highway and hear about newcomers to the Bayou State. If you look around our towns and cities, you see license plates from almost every state. So the question is, where are they coming from...or where are they going?

How Many People Are Relocating to Louisiana?

In Louisiana, tons of folks are seeing how good we have it here (or not) and are packing up their moving trucks and beginning new lives. We had 23,000 new residents last year. Most of the new residents are what's considered "international immigrants", reports show from the United States Census.

With growth comes ups and downs, just because we have so many new residents doesn't mean that we don't lose residents too.

Where are Louisiana Residents Moving to?

According to U-Haul data, some Cajuns are also leaving.
It's also true that Louisiana is losing residents. We learned a lot about who relocated to Texas from U-Haul's recent 2025 migration study. The cities and states that Louisiana citizens have relocated to and now call home piqued our curiosity greatly. According to the data, Louisiana citizens are relocating most frequently to Texas. San Antonio is the hotspot.

Is Relocation to Louisiana's Neighboring States Popular?

Many of our surrounding states also saw a large influx of citizens. Last year, one of the most popular is Texas with an estimated 500K new residents...It's bigger there.

So if you're in the mood to leave, I would say explore your options. I can think of a ton of better places to live, but I love calling Southwest Louisiana Home.
