Louisiana Residents, Popular Airline Company Changing Seating Policies
Hey, Louisiana travelers! If you love flying with Southwest Airlines, there's an important update you need to know about. Southwest Airlines is changing its open seating policy, and we want to make sure you're ready for your next flight!
First, let's talk about what open seating means. On most airlines, you get a specific seat number on your ticket. But Southwest does things differently! When you fly with them, you don’t have an assigned seat. Instead, you choose your seat when you board the plane. This is called open seating, customers can pay extra to board early to get their preferred seat.
Southwest Airlines has decided to change its open seating policy to make the boarding process faster and more organized. This change aims to help passengers find seats more quickly, reduce the time planes spend at the gate, and ensure that everyone has a smoother experience.
The recently announced changes would allow the carrier to increase revenue by charging higher prices for premium tickets on all of its flights.
Southwest stated it intends to offer a premium, extended legroom section of the cabin, with approximately one-third of seats across the fleet offering extended legroom. That is consistent with what industry peers offer on narrow-body aircraft.
Southwest said the decision was made after research showed that 80% of its current and nearly 90% of potential customers prefer an allocated seat.
"When a customer elects to stop flying with Southwest and chooses a competitor, open seating is cited as the number one reason for the change," Southwest said in its Thursday release. "By moving to an assigned seating model, Southwest expects to broaden its appeal and attract more flying from its current and future customers."
