LSU Baseball Coach Mainieri Booed as Final Game Finishes

Tell me you hold a grudge without telling me you hold a grudge. Tennessee fans did just that as the LSU Tiger baseball team finished their season with a loss to Tennessee.

The final game for the Tigers also marked the end of a 15-year stint for Tigers Head Coach Paul Mainieri. It's not ideal to have your last game as a head coach be a loss. It's also not the going away celebration you want when you receive a boo instead of an applause after your name is announced.

As the announcer calls the end of the game, he also congratulates Coach Mainieri on his career. Suddenly, you hear the stadium erupt in boos. The boos are chained to a comment the coach made about Tennessee fans. He was interviewed after the Tigers logged three losses in Knoxville. He called the fans of the Vols nasty. Mighty big words to call fans after your team just took a weekend of losses.

The retiring coach did eventually apologize for the comment about the fans. He said he felt that perhaps his comment was taken too far. For the fans in Tennessee, it seems his apology was not anywhere near enough.

Although he didn't receive the pomp and circumstance most retiring coaches get, Mainieri finished his career with almost 40 years of coaching college baseball.
