The game marks an emotional return to Lake Charles for LSU head coach Will Wade, who helped transform the McNeese basketball program during his two seasons with the Cowboys.

After taking over a struggling program, Wade quickly turned McNeese into one of the nation's top mid-major success stories. The Cowboys won consecutive Southland Conference regular-season championships, reached the NCAA Tournament, and gained national attention during his tenure.

Wade eventually left McNeese for NC State before returning to LSU, where he previously coached from 2017 to 2022.

Now, Wade will face the program he helped build.
