LSU Seeks Revenge, 8th National Title, vs Coastal Carolina in CWS Title Series

Omaha, Nebraska (KNGT-FM) - The LSU Tigers are on the chase for National Title #8 this weekend as the Tigers will take on Coastal Carolina in the 2025 College Baseball National Championship.

You don't have to give LSU fans a reason to want to beat Coastal Carolina in the National Championship. Tiger fans still remember the 2016 Super Regional. That was one of the biggest upsets College Baseball had seen in that time. The Chanticleers came into Alex Box Stadium and stunned LSU by sweeping the Tigers in the Super Regionals. It was Coastal’s first-ever trip to the College World Series, and they rode that momentum all the way to a national title.

But this time, it isn't some Cinderella Story anymore, even though most are still considering the matchup David vs. Goliath. Coastal Carolina may not be your traditional power, but it’s no Cinderella, not anymore.

For head coach Jay Johnson, this rematch hits home, too. Back in 2016, it was his Arizona team that lost to Coastal Carolina in the College World Series finals. Coastal took Game 3 by a score of 4-3.

A little about the Chanticleers... Coastal Carolina comes into the championship on a 26-game win streak, leading the nation with 56 wins. The Sun Belt champs haven’t lost since April 22 and have picked up big wins over ranked teams. They swept No. 4 Auburn on the road, then beat Arizona, Oregon State, and Louisville in Omaha by a combined score of 24-9.

LSU looked dead to rights on Wednesday Night as the Tigers had to claw back with an improbable comeback to defeat Arkansas on a Jared Jones walk-off single to beat the Hogs.

LSU will seek its eighth National Championship and its second in the past three seasons. The Tigers have claimed CWS titles in 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2009, and 2023.
