Calcasieu Parish, LA [KNGT-FM] - Memorial Day weekend has officially arrived. For many families across Southwest Louisiana, that means cookouts, road trips, gatherings with loved ones, and a well-earned three-day weekend.

While the holiday is often viewed as the unofficial start of summer, it also brings changes to important local services that residents depend on every week, including government office closures and sanitation schedules.

As families prepare to celebrate the long weekend, many households will likely see an increase in garbage and household waste from parties, visitors, and outdoor activities. With extra trash piling up, residents are being encouraged to stay informed about local pickup schedules to avoid overflowing garbage cans as we head into next week.

For residents living in Calcasieu Parish who receive trash services through Waste Management, there is some good news heading into the holiday weekend. According to Calcasieu Parish Police Jury spokesperson Laura Heller, garbage and trash collection services for Waste Management customers will continue without interruption despite Memorial Day office closures.

Residents are also reminded to double-check local city schedules, as some municipalities within Southwest Louisiana may operate under different holiday sanitation plans.
