Miranda Lambert brought two leading men in her life onstage with her at a tour preview show at Joe's Bar in Chicago on Tuesday night (Jan. 24). Her dad, Rick Lambert, and her boyfriend, Anderson East, joined Lambert in singing an old spiritual-turned-civil-rights-anthem titled “Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind Stayed on Freedom).”

The three joined Lambert’s talented background singers in a gospel-infused singalong at the show, which raised funds for her Women Creators Scholarship Fund. The fund awards scholarships to female students attending Nashville’s Belmont University for majors in the music industry.

In the clip above, Lambert's harmony vocalist, Gwen Sebastian, kicks things off before Rick Lambert jumps in for a soulful vocal turn. Lambert and her dad also harmonize, and East takes a spotlight turn, too, with Lambert's band members getting to shine instrumentally on the song.

It was clear from the performance that Lambert was loving every minute of singing a song she believes in with people she loves, gearing up to connect with fans on the road for the next few months.

Her most recent record, The Weight of These Wings, is an honest reflection of the events of the past year or so, having walked through a very public divorce with Blake Shelton (e.g. its first single, “Vice”), but it also includes a love song with Anderson East and a few quirky, upbeat tunes (e.g. the second single, “We Should Be Friends”) testifying to her wit and folksy roots. Check out the full performance of “Woke Up This Morning” above.

The rehearsal was prep for her upcoming Highway Vagabond Tour, bringing songs from her acclaimed double album to fans around the country. Named for one of the songs on the record, the tour kicks off Jan. 26 in Evansville, Ind., and wraps mid-March, bringing along Aubrie Sellers and Old Dominion for the run. Lambert won’t rest for long after the tour, though, as she’s slated to appear at several festivals and headlining shows this summer, including the Taste of Country Music Festival in June.
